Peiper was recruited into the Waffen SS in 1935 after graduating from College. Sepp Dietrich reviewed his application and admitted him into the LSSAH (Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler) honour guard regiment.
At just 29 years of age Joachim Peiper was a fully fledged Oberst of the Waffen SS and holder of the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. A talented leader, he took part in a large number of Panzer battles of WWII
